Importuning???

This is the crime of soliciting a minor, or police officer posing as a minor for sex. Used mostly for internet solicitaion.

Did you know that in Franklin County, when a perv is arrested for trying to meet a child for sex- the only jail time they usually get is an overnight stay until they are arraigned the next day? Then they only get 2 years probation! The Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brian doesn't think this crime is serious, because it is "victimless". No child was actually harmed (yet).
Typically a pedophile starts out viewing child porn. When thier urges are no longer satisfied by just viewing child porn, they move on to the next step.... contacting a child for sex. 83% of people who are convicted of sexually abusing a child are also found to have child porn. The average amount of sexual encounters a pedophile has had with a child before getting caught is 30. So according to the statistics, when someone is caught, they have already abused 30 kids and are in possesion of child porn. That doesn't sound "victimless" to me!
Ron O'Brian needs to be told to step up to the needs of of childrens safety. Your voice needs to be heard!

Not sure where you got your information but suffice it to say it is not consistent w/any professional periodicals, FBI or National Institute of Justice (NIJ) stats. Quite frankly, it smacks of 'alarmisim' and does not lend credence to even a modicum of credibility. I, like you, would like to see sexual violence eradicated but to do so requires understanding the subject matter of which you speak. As I type, there are over 21,000 sex offenders registered in Ohio. If one were to extrapolate those numbers to their recidivistic conclusion then you would assume 'most' reoffend. Does that mean 15,000 of these offenders reoffend? Of course not, because if they did you would read every single day; "41 Sex Offenders Reoffended Today". EVERYDAY!....Now I understand I'm playing fast & loose w/statistics but my point is that crying wolf does not help your cause. What we in law enforcement and your grass roots movement should do is focus on the 'truely dangerous' sex offenders. Those that are emprically considered a high risk instead of chasing our collective tails. You nor I can manage to keep an eye on 21,000 sex offenders but we can certainly manage to surveil the top 10% most dangerous. Keep in mind that these top 10% are doing 90% of the reoffending. Hope I didn't lose you ;-D....Anywho, your comments are riddled w/all kinds of inaccuracy's and I challenge you to go to csom.org to learn more on this topic. By the way, not ALL child molesters are pedophiles...A pedophile is a clinical term designated for those who 'prefer' sex w/prepubescent children. Most child molesters have a well developed history of peer relationships and sexually agress for varied and complex reasons. And most importantly most that fit this typology (situational child molester)do NOT reoffend. Let me know if you have any other questions as generally speaking we are on the same page and would like to see this kind of 'chosen' behavior stopped post-haste.

I am assuming this is Michael Price from ROAR, the sex offender advocacy group. Mike, I obtained these statistics from the Westerville ICE (Internet Crime Enforcement) Team. They are some of the police responsible for arresting internet predators and
child pornographers. I do not make up my statistics.
Not all child molestors are pedophiles, yes I know. Not all predators are convicted sex offenders either.
I ask you since you brought it up, what would you do to prevent the sexual abuse of children? I don't want to hear education in the home either because we all know this is not being done. I want to hear a real plan.

I have nothing to do with ROAR, though I work closely w/the sex offender population and have done so for quite some time. Nonetheless, you asked what could be done to "prevent" child sexual abuse and added the caveat you did not want to hear about education. Hmmm, although education is not as titallating as ostracizing low risk sex offenders the literature suggests it is far more effective. Anywyas, the answer to STOP child sexual abuse is simple: Do not allow any child to reside in a home w/any male over age 12. That should effectively stop 90% of the sexual abuse. There you have it, problem solved. Obviously that was toungue-in-cheek but my point is you will never stop child sexual abuse even if you implement the aforementioned police state tactics. I have no choice but to conclude, for whatever reason, you are unable to objectively deal w/this issue. It is obviously personal and you present as more interested in punishing, humiliating or seperating these people from the rest of our society then implementing proactive "evidenced-based" policies.

Just wondering why you did not rebut my last post...Have you come around to my way of thinking; the RIGHT way of thinking? Did you know that the original registration law in Ohio (HB 180) in 1997 was a reaction to the Fed's Jacob Wetterling Act?...and that it's namesake's mother refused to be part of the Adam Walsh Act knowing that it was nothing more than a photo-op for power hungry, posturing and pandering politicians, who “did something to protect children” by passing a meanspirited, shoddily-drafted and predictably ineffective set of residency restrictions on sex offenders.Did you know that in Ohio the age of consent is 16 however if you take a nude picture of the 16 y/o you just had sex with it is a felony...even if you also are 16. Did you know drunken urinaters and mooners are on the sex offender registry. Did you know that if a person was convicted of kidnapping or abduction of a individual under 18 (regardless of whether there was a 'sexual motivation') they would appear on the sex registry? Did you know if someone engaged in sex w/an intoxicated partner that it meets the definition of 'sexual battery' ORC#2907.03...even if the partner 'consented'. Did you know if a teenager shows his buddys his dads Playboy magizine both he and his father would be on the sex registry. Though I have never been convicted of a sex offense I certainly could have been as during college I had sex with an intoxicated partner and have both urinated in public and been guilty of mooning...not to mention sharing Penthouse with my pals...And to think if I was growing up today I would be labeled for life and not gone on to become a productive member of the community w/a loving family...Good work lawmakers;-D

Well Mike, the reason I had not answered your post was because I have become bored with sex offender advocates "reasoning".
You quote stats from 20 year old studies, and examples of "sex crimes" IE: sharing your dads playboy- that in real life would never be prosecuted. Prosecutors give REAL victims a hard enough time getting thier abusers prosecuted.
I spend a great deal of time helping victims of sexual assault trying to even get thier voice heard. It is difficult for real victims to get justice, and I only know of a few cases where someone was prosecuted because the police had an axe to grind.

...Whatever, can't turn on the news anymore without hearing about the sexting. These horrific teens engaging in some degree of consensual sex-play are being treated just like the law says they should be treated; convicted sex offenders. FYI, Prosecutors do not have the latitude to decide which cases to prosecute. If law enforcement brings them a case, no matter how lame you or I think it is, and it meets the litmus test of being a reasonable doubt, they will pad their stats [come election time] and take the sex offence conviction...Now in the real world police decide which cases to bring forward to the prosecutor and in some of these hum-drum boring suburbs you can bet your last nickel these wanna-be big-city cops are presenting the case. Once again, egg-on-your-face....Maybe you should go out and chase down some Satan worshippers....Do it for the children

For once Mike I agree with you that teens sexting should not be considered sex offenders (unless it is a habitual UNWANTED act).
I don't agree that I should chase down Satan Worshippers. They are too small a group to concentrate upon, and I am more passionate about issues pertaining to sex offenders.
They say pick a job that you love, and I love being an Anti.

Thought you said prosecutors would NEVER prosecute something this silly. Welcome to my world. Now if you dig a little deeper you would see similar over-prosecution based on the hysteria created by law-makers and the media. Completed an assessment yesterday that involved a 19 year old intoxicated individual urinating in the bushes and when the neighbors yelled out their window to turn down the music he responded with: "suck my *!ck". Unbeknownst to the perpetrator he was shouting obscenities’ at 16 year-olds. He served 2 years in prison and is now on parole. Understand that this is not his story; I am paraphrasing from the official police report. Nonetheless, he is on the registry, shunned, homeless and unable to have contact with his children. I'm guessing close to 20% of offenders on the registry involve 19/20 year olds having consensual sex with 14/15 year olds. Hate to break it to you missy but 14/15 year olds are having sex and 19/20 year olds are in a 'similar' peer group. Maybe if you looked closer you would see some of these huge disparities and agree the Adam Walsh Act (as written) is akin to chasing Satan-Worshippers.
